(Springfield, IL) — Plans to override Governor Bruce Rauner’s gun dealer licensing legislation veto has fizzled. State Senator Don Harmon, who is the bill’s sponsor, didn’t call for an override vote in Wednesday’s meeting. Harmon said he was confident he had the necessary 36 votes in the Senate, but enough support did not materialize in the House. The bill would have required gun shops to pay the state one-thousand-dollars for a five-year license, along with mandating video surveillance and extensive background checks of employees in the shop.
