(Springfield, IL) — Illinois’ stack of unpaid bills could soon get 63 million-dollars larger. The Illinois Senate is looking at a plan that would order payment of 63 million dollars in back pay to 24 thousand state workers. Some of the money has been owed since 2011. Senators say they want to do right by state workers, but critics say that just because lawmakers order that the checks be cut doesn’t mean that there is money in the bank to pay them.
