(Peoria, IL) — Peoria could raise the age to buy a pack of cigarettes by the end of next month. The city’s Liquor Commission earlier this week approved a Tobacco 21 plan. Mayor Jim Ardis told “The Peoria Journal Star” yesterday that the proposal could come up for a vote in April. More than a dozen Illinois cities including Chicago already have laws that ban anyone under 21 from buying any tobacco products. Advocates say a higher smoking age will keep some young smokers from ever starting.
