(Decatur, IL) – Join MRI to Spread the Word to End the Word. The national campaign aims to inspire respect and acceptance by raising awareness about the R-word (retard or retarded) and how disrespectful and hurtful the word can be toward people with disabilities. On March 7, Special Olympics, Best Buddies and organizations and people across the nation are teaming up to pledge an end to the R-word.
From 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7, MRI will have a booth set up inside the main MRI campus (2121 Hubbard Ave.), at Eisenhower High School and in the new student union at Millikin University. All three locations will include easily accessible ways to pledge support, giveaways and an opportunity to hear first-hand experiences about how the R-word can negatively affect people with disabilities. Join us at any location or take the pledge online at https://www.r-word.org/r-word-pledge.aspx.
