(Urbana, IL) — The University of Illinois and the cities of Champaign-Urbana are fighting a losing battle this weekend. The school and the town are trying to preach calm and sobriety ahead of the annual ‘Unofficial St. Patrick’s Day.’ U of I students love ‘Unofficial’ as a day-long drinking event, but the U of I and city leaders hate the mess, crowds, arrests, and even deaths that the annual tradition also brings. A U of I student died last year after falling off an apartment balcony. ‘Unofficial’ is set for Friday.
