(Niantic, IL) — On Friday afternoon at approximately 3:45 p.m., the Macon County Sheriff’s Office received a call from an individual regarding a student from the Sangamon Valley Schools that was allegedly planning to bring a gun to school to cause a disturbance. Through the initial investigation two juvenile male students, ages 15 and 17, were taken into custody and transferred to the Peoria Juvenile Detention Center. They were detained on the preliminary charges of Disorderly Conduct and Making a Terroristic Threat.
Both juveniles appeared in Macon County court on Tuesday and the judge ordered that the two individuals remain in the custody of the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center.
During the school day on Monday, the Macon County Sheriff’s office was contacted by school administrators regarding another juvenile student that had made a statement that concerned the school. That student was thoroughly interviewed by detectives and subsequently released to the custody of his parents pending further investigation.
At this time parties involved do not believe that there is an immediate threat involving the school or students, nor any information that any other individuals are involved in either incident. Because this is an on-going investigation further information and details cannot be released at this time. Due to the suspects being juveniles, names cannot be released.
