Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller told “The Dan Patrick Show” on Wednesday that he wants Cousins on their team and has even expressed that to him. Cousins is set to become a free agent, and Washington moved on by trading for Smith on Tuesday.

(Portland, OR) — It was a special night for Trail Blazers guard C.J. McCollum at the Moda Center on Wednesday. McCollum went for a career-high 50 points in only three quarters as Portland defeated the Bulls, 124-108. He broke a franchise record for points in a quarter with 28 in the opening 12 minutes.

(Detroit, MI) — Blake Griffin is expected to make his debut for the Pistons tonight against the Grizzlies at Little Caesars Arena. Detroit acquired Griffin from the Clippers earlier in the week in a blockbuster deal. The Pistons sent Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and draft picks to LA.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals are bringing back former closer Edward Mujica. [[ moo-HE-kuh ]]. The “Post-Dispatch” reports they’ve signed him to a minor league contract that does not include an invitation to major league spring training. Mujica has spent the majority of the last two seasons as a setup man for several Triple-A teams.

(Boston, MA) — Boston Red Sox outfielder Mookie Betts will get the money he wants this season. Betts won his arbitration hearing against the Red Sox and will make 10-and-a-half million dollars for 2018. Boston was only willing to pay seven-and-a-half, but a three-judge panel ruled in Betts’ favor Wednesday at the hearing in Phoenix.

(Undated) — Former White Sox and Cubs slugger Oscar Gamble died at the age of 68. Gamble hit 31 homers for the White Sox in 1977. He was drafted by the Cubs in 1968, but was traded to the Phillies after the 1969 season.

The Fighting Illini have won back-to-back games over Indiana and Rutgers since a six-game losing streak. Illinois is 12-and-11 overall and 2-and-8 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes sport a 19-and-5 record, with a 10-and-1 Big Ten mark.
