(Quincy, IL) — One of the largest riverboat cruise operators in the world isn’t coming to western Illinois. Viking Cruises yesterday told city leaders in Quincy and Hannibal, Missouri that they won’t start Mississippi River cruises because they can’t afford to have their ships made in the U.S. and still stay competitive. Federal rules say that boats that operate in U.S. waters must be made by U.S. crews. Viking had planned to add stops up and down the Mississippi River.
