Penguins Fall At Home To Blackhawks
(Pittsburgh, PA) — Artem Anisimov scored the decisive goal on a third period power play as the Blackhawks beat the Penguins 2-1 in Pittsburgh. His power play goal came 21 seconds after the Penguins tied the score. Corey Crawford rejected 35 of 36 shots as the Hawks won for the third time in four games. Gustav Forsling scored the first Chicago goal on a first period power play. Matt Hunwick scored a short-handed goal for Pittsburgh in the third period. The Penguins thought they tied it on a Jake Guentzel wrist shot with 8:27 to go, but it was overturned. The Penguins have dropped eight straight to the Hawks.
Blues Nip Canucks In OT
(Vancouver, British Columbia) — Brayden Schenn scored in overtime to lift the Blues to a 4-3 victory over the Canucks in Vancouver. Joel Edmundson’s third period goal tied the score, while Paul Stastny had three assists. St. Louis rallied from a 3-1 deficit and lead the Western Conference with 31 points. Sevn Baertschi had a goal and an assist for the Canucks. Brock Boeser and Markus Grandlund had the other Vancouver goals. The Canucks are 1-3-and-1 in their past five games.
Kansas State Upends Number-13 Oklahoma State
(Stillwater, OK) — Kansas State built up a 25 point fourth-quarter lead and held on to clip number-13 Oklahoma State 45-40 in Stillwater. Wildcats’ quarterback Skylar Thompson completed 10-of-13 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns in the winning effort. Byron Pringle caught all three scores and finished with 166 yards on four receptions. Thompson also led the Cats with 93 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown as they improved to 6-and-4 overall and 4-and-4 in Big 12 play. Cowboys’ signal caller Mason Rudolph tossed two of his three touchdowns and ran for another in the fourth-quarter rally attempt. James Washington had 159 receiving yards and two scores as Oklahoma State fell to 8-and-3 and 5-and-3.
Wisconsin Downs Michigan
(Madison, WI) — Wisconsin remains unbeaten after a 24-10 grind-it-out victory over Michigan in Madison. Alex Hornibrook threw for 143 yards, a touchdown and an interception for the 11-and-0 Badgers. Jonathan Taylor rumbled for 132 rushing yards, and Kendric Pryor ran for a score. Wisconsin can close the regular season undefeated with a win at Minnesota next weekend. Ben Mason scored the lone touchdown for Michigan on a one-yard plunge. The Wolverines managed just 58 rushing yards on 37 carries and fell to 8-and-3.
Wake Forest Upends Number-19 NC State
(Winston-Salem, NC) — Wake Forest safety Demetrius Kemp forced a fumble on Emeka Emezie’s apparent game-tying touchdown in the final two minutes as the Demon Deacons upset number-19 North Carolina State, 30-24, in Winston-Salem. Emezie tried to extend the ball past the goal line for NC-State, but Kemp knocked the ball loose to force the game-clinching turnover. John Wolford threw for 247 yards and three scores for Wake Forest. Tabari Hines caught all three touchdowns as the Deacons improved to 7-and-4 overall and 4-and-3 in the ACC. The Wolfpack had a lopsided advantage in total yards, time-of-possession, and first downs but three crucial turnovers did them in. Ryan Finley threw for 327 yards, a touchdown and a pick in defeat. NC State is 7-and-4 and 5-and-2.
