For the seventh consecutive year, law enforcement agencies across central Illinois partnered with the DEA to hold a bi-annual drug take back event. Decatur Police, Taylorville Police, and the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Officer were some of the agencies that participated this weekend. The take-back offers no questions asked ways for residents to dispose of old prescriptions that have either expired or are no longer needed. Last April, a nationwide drug take-back saw Americans turn in 450 tons of drugs at more than 5,000 sites. Since the take-backs started, the DEA has disposed of more than 8 million pounds of old pills.ff
