Brayden Schenn snapped a 1-all tie with a power-play goal in the first period and Jaden Schwartz sealed the 3-1 win over the Rangers with an empty-netter late in the third. Carl Gunnarsson opened the scoring for St. Louis, which is a perfect 4-and-0. The Blues continue their road trip tomorrow at Florida.

(Montreal, Quebec) — The Blackhawks scored three unanswered goals to pull past the Canadiens 3-1 at the Bell Centre. Alex DeBrincat and Brandon Saad lit the lamp 19 seconds apart late in the first period to give Chicago the lead. Artem Anisimov added one on the power play the following period. The Hawks are off to a 3-0-and-1 start. Corey Crawford turned away 41 shots in the victory. The ‘Hawks host Minnesota tomorrow.

(Couva, Trinidad and Tobago) — The unthinkable is happening to the USA men’s soccer team. They won’t be going to the 2018 World Cup after losing 2-1 to Trinidad and Tobago in Couva on Tuesday. The loss, plus wins by Honduras and Panama, eliminated Team USA. The last time the United States didn’t qualify for the World Cup was in 1986.

(Undated) — NFL players are getting support from a labor union that represents workers in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas. A complaint was filed against the Dallas Cowboys due to owner Jerry Jones threatening to bench players who don’t stand for the national anthem. They argue Jones is in violation of the National Labor Relations Act.

(Tempe, AZ) — The Arizona Cardinals are shaking up their backfield. They acquired running back Adrian Peterson from the Saints for an undisclosed 2018 draft pick. Arizona then cut veteran halfback Chris Johnson. Peterson has rushed for 81 yards on 27 attempts this season. He was behind Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara on the depth chart. The Cards are looking for help with David Johnson out.

Corey Kluber starts for the Tribe opposite New York’s CC Sabathia.

(Las Vegas, NV) — Fans at T-Mobile Arena were in for a treat during the Vegas Golden Knights’ first ever home game. Vegas stormed out of the gate with four goals in the first period en route to a 5-2 win over the Coyotes. James Neal had two of the goals during the eight-minute, 11-second outburst. The Golden Knights are off to a 3-0-and-0 start in their debut season.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts are preparing for their Week Six “Monday Night Football” showdown with the Titans in Nashville. Indy improved to 2-and-3 with last Sunday’s 26-23 win over the 49ers. Tennessee is also 2-and-3. Quarterback Andrew Luck has already been ruled out for the Monday Night matchup.

(Champaign, IL) — The Illinois football team is at home Saturday against Rutgers. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. The Fighting Illini are looking to snap a three-game losing streak following this past Saturday’s 45-16 loss at Iowa. Illinois is 2-and-3 on the season and 0-and-2 in the Big Ten. The Scarlet Knights are coming off a bye and are 1-and-4 and 0-and-2.
