(Peoria, IL) — City leaders in Peoria are still split on whether they need to create a new sales tax district to help build a Chicago style hotdog restaurant. City council members last night debated, but did not vote on, the proposed Portillo’s Tax. The idea is to create a special sales tax area to charge customers more in order to offset the cost of building the restaurant. Some city leaders say people in Peoria can’t afford to pay more.
