(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals were eliminated from wild card contention with a 2-1 loss to the Cubs in 11 innings at Busch Stadium. Matt Bowman gave up the go-ahead double to Taylor Davis in the 11th. Paul DeJong [[ deh-YOUNG ]] was robbed of a game-tying homer by Leonys Martin [[ mar-TEEN ]] at the center field wall to end the game.

(Chicago, IL) — The White Sox used a three-run eighth inning to rally past the Angels 5-4 in Chicago. Rob Brantly drilled a game-tying, two-run homer before Tim Anderson scored the winning run on a single by Rymer Liriano. Gregory Infante earned the win and Juan Minaya came away with the save. The White Sox have won four of their last five.

(Miami, FL) — Giancarlo [[ zjohn-CAR-lo ]] Stanton homered twice to power the Marlins to a 7-1 win over the Braves in the opener of a four-game set in Miami. Stanton is the first player to hit 59 homers in a season since 2001. He’s only the sixth player ever in MLB history to reach 59 in a season.

(New York, NY) — NBA commissioner Adam Silver says he expects players to stand during the National Anthem. NBA rules expressly state that players must be present and stand in a dignified posture during the song. Silver declined to discuss any potential punishments if a player were to kneel during the anthem this season.

(St. Louis, MO) — Four Saint Louis University basketball players are being accused of sexual assault. Police says three women reported sexual assaults by SLU student-athletes early Sunday. Two of them are also SLU students. The alleged incidents took place at an on-campus apartment. An attorney for one of the athletes calls it a “non-criminal investigation.”
