(Baltimore, MD) — Chris Sale became the first AL pitcher to reach 300 strikeouts in a single season in 18 years in Boston’s 9-0 win over the Orioles. Sale fanned 13 to become the first hurler since Pedro Martinez in 1999 to reach the 300 mark. The Red Sox also clinched a playoff spot when the Angels lost to the Indians later in the night.

(Cincinnati, OH) — Matt Carpenter, Dexter Fowler homered for the third straight game as the Cardinals cruised to a 9-2 win at Cincinnati. Jaden Schwartz scored shorthanded for St. Louis, which overcame a 2-1 deficit. The Blues have split their first two games and are back on the ice tomorrow for a preseason game at Washington.

The sophomore cornerback at Midwestern State in Texas died following injuries while making a tackle in Saturday’s win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
