(Foxboro, MA) — NFL commissioner Roger Goodell is back in Foxboro. Goodell attended last night’s preseason game between the Jaguars and Patriots. It’s his first visit to Gillette Stadium since the “Deflategate” scandal. The Jaguars beat the Patriots, 31-24. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady did not play.

(Chicago, IL) — The Bears suffered a 24-17 loss to the Broncos in their preseason opener at Solider Field. Mike Glennon was just 2-of-8 for 20 yards and an interception that was returned for a touchdown in his debut. Rookie Mitchell Trubisky threw for 166 yards and a score in his first game. The Bears visit the Cardinals a week from tomorrow.

(Baltimore, MD) — The Ravens rolled to a 23-3 win over the Redskins in the preseason opener at M&T Bank Stadium. Terrance West had a two-yard run for and Josh Woodrum threw a 33-yard TD pass to Tim White for Baltimore. Kirk Cousins was 1-for-2 for five yards in limited duty for Washington. Dustin Hopkins’ 49-yard field goal was the Skins’ only score.

(Miami, FL) — The Falcons gave up 13 fourth-quarter points and lost their preseason opener 23-20 at Miami. Matt Ryan went 3-for-3 with a 15-yard TD pass to Devonta Freeman on the team’s opening possession. Terron Ward added a three-yard TD run for Atlanta, which led 20-10 after three quarters. The Falcons will visit the Steelers a week from Sunday.

(Buffalo, NY) — The Vikings scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as they topped the Buffalo Bills, 17-10, at New Era Field. C.J. Ham rushed for a score and Rodney Adams caught a pass from Taylor Heinicke. Case Keenum was 11-of-16 for 121 yards. The Vikes visit Seattle next Friday.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts’ offense was dealt a tough blow on Thursday. Center Ryan Kelly went down with a foot injury and he’s out indefinitely. Kelly was the Colts’ first-round draft choice last year and started every game as a rookie. Undrafted free agent Deyshawn Boyd stepped in for Kelly.

(St. Louis, MO) — The red-hot Cardinals are suddenly a game out of first place. St. Louis ran its winning streak to six games with an 8-6 victory over the visiting Royals. Dexter Fowler hit a grand slam for the Redbirds, who are just a game back of the Cubs in the NL Central. The Cardinals continue their homestand tonight with the first of a three-game series against the Braves at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright opposes Atlanta’s Mike Foltynewicz in the opener.

(Phoenix, AZ) — The Cubs visit the Diamondbacks tonight in Phoenix. It’s the start of a three-game series with the Snakes. John Lackey will start for Chicago, while Arizona sends Taijuan Walker to the mound. The Cubs have lost two in-a-row and six of their last eight games, but still lead the NL Central at 59-and-54.

(Chicago, IL) — The White Sox completed a three-game sweep of the AL-leading Astros with a 3-2, 11-inning win on the Southside. Yoan Moncada hit a solo homer in the ninth to force extras and singled in the winning run in the 11th. David Holmberg was credited with the victory. The White Sox open a three-game series with the Royals on the Southside tonight. Chicago is an AL-worst 44-and-68 on the season. Reynaldo Lopez toes the rubber tonight for the Sox. (Undated) — Trade talks between the Knicks and Rockets regarding Carmelo Anthony are back on. ESPN reports the Rockets are seeking a third team to make a deal work. The 33-year-old Anthony has said he will only waive his no-trade clause to go to Houston.

(New York, NY) — The Warriors will raise their championship banner on NBA Opening Night. Golden State will begin the new campaign against James Harden, Chris Paul and the Rockets on October 17th. The Cavaliers will also clash with the Celtics the same evening.

(Charlotte, NC) — Thorbjorn Olesen and Kevin Kisner share the lead after the opening round of the 99th PGA Championship. Both players carded four-under 67s in the first round at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte. Five golfers are one shot back. British Open champion Jordan Spieth is tied for 33rd at one-over. (Brooklyn, MI) — The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series heads to Michigan International Speedway for the Pure Michigan 400. Qualifying takes place at 5:05 tonight, with the 200-lap, 400-mile race to follow Sunday afternoon. Martin Truex Jr. enters the weekend atop the driver standings.
