(Decatur, IL) — Macon County State’s Attorney Jay Scott and Sheriff Thomas Schneider announced on Monday that Macon County businesses are currently being targeted by a telephone scam.
The callers claim to be employees of Ameren Illinois, notify the victims that their power bill has not been paid and represent that the power will be shut off if immediate payment has not been made. Several of these scam calls to local automotive businesses were reported yesterday morning to the Elder Fraud Hotline.
Residents are advised to hang up if one of these calls is received. If you suspect a scam please call the Elder Fraud Hotline at 217-615-7582.
