(Decatur, IL) — Decatur City Council Member Pat McDaniel who also serves as the City Liquor Commissioner on the Decatur Celebration’s Board and Staff will oppose the request to extend the hours of the sale of liquor to midnight on Friday and Saturday night during the Celebration.
In addition to opposing the extension of liquor sale hours, he will also be opposing Celebration Board’s request to fence in a large portion of the downtown business district in their quest to raise additional funds for the Celebration.
McDaniel’s reason to vote against the extension of liquor sales past 11:00 p.m. is concerns for public safety for citizens of all ages who would be driving or walking home from the Celebration. The reason behind voting against the Board’s request to fence in a large portion of the downtown business district in their quest to raise additional funds for the Celebration goes against their thirty years of promoting the annual event as the Largest Downtown Free Street Festival.
The Decatur Celebration is set for August 4-6 with many forms of entertainment, attractions, and vendors during the three days.
