Decatur, IL – The five union locals representing about 1100 District #61 employees in Decatur are recommending four candidates for election to the District #61 school board.
The coalition of local unions is recommending Kendall Briscoe, Courtney Carson, Beth Creighton and Beth Nolan for terms on the District #61 board in the April 4 election.
Each of the recommended candidates, if elected, would be serving on the school board for the first time.
The unions are affiliates of the Illinois Education Association, the Illinois Federation of Teachers, SEIU and the Teamsters.
In a joint statement, the unions said having some new faces on the board is in the best interests of Decatur’s students and the community.
“It is time for some new ideas and new energy on the District #61 school board. These candidates have shown great compassion for our public schools and for the students who attend them.
“The members of our unions believe every student deserves a high-quality education and each of these candidates strongly embrace that philosophy. We are proud to recommend Kendall Briscoe, Courtney Carson, Beth Creighton and Beth Nolan for the District #61 board,” the coalition’s statement said.
