>>Blue Jackets Fall Short Of History

 

(Washington, DC)  —  The Blue Jackets’ run at history is coming up just short.  Columbus’ 16-game wining streak came to an end with a 5-0 loss to the Capitals.  The Jackets were one victory away from tying the 1992-93 Penguins for the longest winning streak in NHL history.

 

 

>>Blues Fall To Hurricanes

 

(St. Louis, MO)  —  The Blues gave up a pair of third-period goals and lost 4-2 to the Hurricanes at Scottrade Center.  Joel Edmundson and Vladimir Tarasenko had second-period goals to stake St. Louis to a 2-1 lead.  The Blues have traded wins and losses in their last seven games.  They host Dallas tomorrow.

 

 

>>Blackhawks Outlast Sabres In Overtime

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  Patrick Kane scored 56 seconds into overtime to give the Blackhawks a 4-3 win over the Sabres in Chicago.  Ryan Hartman tallied in the first and Artem Anisimov lit the lamp in both the second and third periods as Chicago overcame three one-goal deficits.  The ‘Hawks are right back in action tonight against Carolina.

 

 

>>Wade Second In ASG Voting

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Bulls’ Dwyane Wade is second among Eastern Conference guards in voting for the All-Star Game.  Wade leads Toronto’s DeMar DeRozan by just under 25-thousand votes.  Meanwhile, Jimmy Butler is sixth among frontcourt players.  The 66th NBA All-Star Game is set for February 19th in New Orleans.

 

 

>>Reyes, Carpenter Confirmed For World Baseball Classic

 

(St. Louis, MO)  —  A pair of Cardinals are confirmed for participation in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.  The agent for pitching prospect Alex Reyes says he has been selected to play for the Dominican Republic.  Infielder Matt Carpenter also confirms to the “Post-Dispatch” that he will be on Team USA.

 

 

>>Sooners RB Mixon To Turn Pro

 

(Norman, OK)  —  One of college football’s most polarizing players is going pro.  Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon announced he is entering the NFL Draft.  Mixon was suspended for the 2014 season after punching a woman at an Oklahoma restaurant.

 

 

>>NFL Suspends Cowboys DE Gregory One Year

 

(Frisco, TX)  —  Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory is in trouble with the NFL once again.  Gregory has been hit with a one-year suspension for his third violation of the league’s substance abuse policy.  The second-year pro was already suspended 14 games this season.

 

 

>>NFL Playoffs Begin Tomorrow

 

(Undated)  —  It’s Wild Card Weekend in the NFL.  The playoffs begin tomorrow with the Texans hosting the Raiders and the Lions squaring off with the Seahawks in Seattle.  On Sunday, the Steelers host the Dolphins and the Giants face the Packers in Green Bay.

 

 

>>Illinois At Indiana Tomorrow

 

(Bloomington, IN)  —  Illinois plays at 25th-ranked Indiana tomorrow.  The Fighting Illini beat Ohio State last Sunday for their seventh win in eight games.  Illinois is 11-and-4 overall and 1-and-1 in Big Ten play.  The Hoosiers have dropped three in-a-row.  Indiana is 10-and-5 on the season and 0-and-2 in conference.
