Jake Arrieta hit a three-run homer off Madison Bumgarner in the second, while Kris Bryant launched a two-run shot in the ninth to force extras. Mike Montgomery took the loss. The Cubs take another crack at closing out the Giants in Game Four of their NLDS tonight. John Lackey is slated to be on the mound for Chicago. San Francisco counters with Matt Moore. The Cubs would host a decisive Game Five Thursday if the Giants win tonight.

(Boston, MA) — The Indians are on their way to the ALCS. Cleveland held off the Red Sox 4-3 in Boston to complete a three-game sweep of its AL Division Series. Tyler Naquin singled in two runs in the fourth and Coco Crisp added a two-run homer in the sixth to stake the Tribe to a 4-1 lead. Josh Tomlin pitched five-plus innings of two-run ball to get the win and Cody Allen held on in the ninth to notch his second save.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Jayson Werth went 3-for-4 with a home run as the Nationals beat the Dodgers 8-3 in Game Three of their NL Division Series in Los Angeles. Washington scored four times in the third inning and four more in the ninth. Sammy Solis got the win, while Kenta Maeda took the loss. Corey Seager had an RBI double in the first and Carlos Ruiz smacked a two-run homer in the fifth for LA, which trails the best-of-five series 2-to-1.

(Lake Forest, IL) — There’s no plan in place when Bears quarterback Jay Cutler returns from injury. Head coach John Fox says his focus right now is on healthy quarterbacks Brian Hoyer and Matt Barkley. Cutler has missed the last three games with a thumb injury.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts’ already short-handed secondary received another blow. Slot cornerback Darius Butler suffered a fractured finger in Sunday’s win over the Bears and will require surgery. Coach Chuck Pagano told reporters yesterday that Butler’s status is in question for Sunday’s game against the Texans in Houston. Butler has already missed two games this year with a hamstring injury.

(Lake Forest, IL) — The Bears aren’t ruling out a return for wide receiver Kevin White this season. White will undergo surgery to repair a broken left fibula this week. Head coach John Fox says it’s possible White could come off injured reserve later in the season.

(Chicago, IL) — The Blackhawks raise the curtain on the regular season against the rival Blues at the United Center tomorrow. Chicago wrapped up the preseason with a 2-1 loss to the Blues in St. Louis on Saturday. The ‘Hawks went 2-and-4 during exhibition play.
