>>Palmer Passes Away At 87

 

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  The sports world is mourning the loss of Arnold Palmer.  The golf icon passed away in Pittsburgh at the age of 87 due to complications from heart problems.  Known as “The King”, Palmer captured seven major championships during his legendary career.  His 62 PGA Tour wins are the fifth-most all-time.

 

>>Marlins’ Pitcher Fernandez Killed In Boating Accident

 

(Miami, FL)  —  The baseball world is in shock following the tragic death of Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez.  The 24-year-old was killed in a boating accident Sunday morning.  The two-time All-Star was scheduled to be on the mound tonight.  Miami’s scheduled game against the Braves yesterday was cancelled.

 

>>Dodgers Win NL West Title

 

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  The Dodgers are National League West champions once again.  The Dodgers captured their fourth straight division crown with a 4-3, 10-inning win over the Rockies.  Charlie Culberson clubbed a walk-off solo homer in the final home game for legendary Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully.

 

>>Cubs Cut Down Cardinals

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Cubs cut down the Cardinals, 3-1, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Wrigley.  Jon Lester tossed six-and-two-thirds shutout innings to improve to 19-and-4.  Aroldis Chapman earned his 16th save.  David Ross drilled a solo homer in Chicago’s regular-season home finale.

 

>>White Sox Blank Indians

 

(Cleveland, OH)  —  Carlos Rodon struck out 11 over eight innings of two-hit ball to pace the White Sox past the Indians, 3-0.  David Robertson struck out the side in the ninth inning for his 36th save of the season.  Carlos Sanchez drove in two for Chicago, which took two-of-three in the series.

 

>>Colts Get By Chargers

 

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  Andrew Luck’s 63-yard touchdown pass to T.Y. Hilton with 1:17 to go gave the Colts a 26-22 win over the Chargers.  Luck threw for 331 yards, the touchdown, an interception and lost a fumble in Indianapolis’ first win of the season.  Hilton made eight grabs for 174 yards.  Frank Gore rumbled for 82 yards and a touchdown.

 

>>Cowboys Clobber Bears

 

(Arlington, TX)  —  The Bears were no match for the Cowboys in a 31-17 loss on “Sunday Night Football”.  Brian Hoyer started in place of the injury Jay Cutler and threw for 317 yards and two touchdowns.  Zach Miller had both TD grabs for the Bears, who dropped to 0-and-3.  Chicago hosts the Lions on Sunday.

 

>>Broncos Down Bengals To Stay Unbeaten

 

(Cincinnati, OH)  —  The Broncos are 3-and-0 after storming by the Bengals, 29-17.  Trevor Siemian threw for 312 yards and four touchdowns for the defending Super Bowl champs.  Siemian became the first quarterback in NFL history threw throw for 300 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in his first career road start.

 

>>Harvick Takes Checkered Flag At New Hampshire

 

(Loudon, NH)  —  Kevin Harvick took the checkered flag at the Bad Boy Off Road 300 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  Harvick secured a spot in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Round of 12 with the victory.  Matt Kenseth, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and Kurt Busch rounded out the top five.

 

 

The Millikin University football team opened play in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 42-7 loss at seventh ranked North Central College on September 24 in Naperville, Illinois.  North Central had 409 total yards of offense, and 6 sacks in the win.  Millikin hosts North Park for the Homecoming Game this Saturday at Frank M Lindsey field.

 

>>LSU Fires Miles

 

(Baton Rouge, LA)  —  The Les Miles era at LSU is over.  Miles was fired by the Tigers just four games into his 12th season in Baton Rouge.  Assistant Ed Orgeron is taking over on an interim basis.
