(Glendale, AZ) — The Patriots escaped with a 23-21 win over the Cardinals in Arizona. The Pats held on after Chandler Catanzaro missed a 47-yard field goal with 41 seconds left. Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 264 yards and a touchdown in place of the suspended Tom Brady.

(Houston, TX) — The Bears opened the season with a 23-14 loss to the Texans in Houston. Jay Cutler passed for 216 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Jeremy Langford rushed for 57 yards and a score in defeat. Next up for Chicago is a “Monday Night Football” matchup with the Eagles at Soldier Field.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Lions blew an 18-point lead, but Matt Prater nailed the winning field goal in the final seconds to clinch a 39-35 win over the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. Indy took a one-point lead on an Andrew Luck touchdown pass to Jack Doyle with 37 seconds left, but Matthew Stafford directed the winning drive as Prater put Detroit up for good. Luck threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns for Indianapolis, including two to Doyle

(Arlington, TX) — Eli Manning threw three touchdown passes as the Giants edged the Cowboys, 20-19. Sterling Shepard, Larry Donnell and Victor Cruz had the touchdown grabs in Ben McAdoo’s debut as New York’s head coach. Dallas rookie Dak Prescott threw for 227 yards in his first NFL start.

(Undated) — Alabama remains first in this week’s Top-25 Coaches’ Poll, while Florida State and Clemson are swapping spots. The Seminoles are now second following their rout of Charleston Southern. The Tigers dropped to third after surviving a scare from Troy. Ohio State and Michigan round out the top five.

(St. Louis, MO) — Kevin Siegrist gave up a solo homer to Ryan Braun in the top of the ninth inning as the Cardinals lost 2-1 to the Brewers at Busch Stadium. Matt Carpenter doubled and scored on Stephen Piscotty’s sac-fly to tie the game in the bottom of the eighth for St. Louis. The teams split the four games.

(Houston, TX) — Addison Russell went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to power the Cubs to a 9-5 win over the Astros in Houston. Jorge Soler also homered for Chicago, which led 9-0 in the fourth inning. Jake Arrieta got his 17th win as the Cubs took two-of three. They play in St. Louis tonight.

(Chicago, IL) — The Royals blanked the White Sox, 2-0, in the rubber match of a three-game set at The Cell. Chris Sale struck out 12, but allowed both runs during his eight-inning start to fall to 15-and-8. Chicago had only two hits, both of which came from Adam Eaton.

(Flushing Meadows, NY) — Stan Wawrinka is the 2016 U.S. Open men’s champion. The third-seeded Wawrinka upset top-seeded Novak Djokovic in four sets in the men’s final yesterday. Angelique Kerber beat Karolina Pliskova for the women’s title on Saturday.

(Carmel, IN) — Dustin Johnson is celebrating another victory. Johnson posted a three-shot win at the BMW Championship in Indiana. Johnson finished 23-under-par to win for the third time in his last eight tournaments. Paul Casey finished alone in second place at 20-under.

(Richmond, VA) — Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday. Kyle Larson finished second, while Martin Truex Jr., Brad Keselowski, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.
