(Milwaukee, WI) — Kyle Hendricks allowed just one run in six innings for his 14th win as the Cubs beat the Brewers 7-2 in Milwaukee. Chris Coghlan went 2-for-2 with three RBI after entering the game as a pinch-hitter. Chicago scored all seven runs from the sixth inning on. The teams play again tonight.

(Chicago, IL) — Justin Upton’s three-run homer in the top of the 11th powered the Tigers to a 5-3 win over the White Sox. Alex Avila hit a game-tying solo homer in the seventh for Chicago, which has lost six of its last eight. Chris Beck took the loss.

(Lake Forest, IL) — Kicker Connor Barth is the newest member of the Bears. Barth replaces long-time Bear Robbie Gould, who was released Sunday night. Barth previously played briefly under John Fox when the two were in Denver. The Bears open the season Sunday against the Texans in Houston.

(Orlando, FL) — Florida State stormed back from a 22-point deficit for a 45-34 win over Ole Miss. The fourth-ranked Seminoles outscored the 12th-ranked Rebels 32-6 in the second half. Freshman Deondre Francois threw for 419 yards and two touchdowns in the victory.

(College Station, TX) — “Johnny Football” is returning to the classroom. Former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel [[ man-ZELL ]] has re-enrolled at Texas A&M after his NFL career was derailed by a series of off-field incidents. Manziel played two seasons for the Aggies and won the Heisman Trophy in 2012.

(Norton, MA) — Rory McIlroy rallied from a six-shot deficit to win the Deutsche Bank Championship. McIlroy fired a six-under 65 in the final round and finished 15-under for the championship. It’s his first PGA Tour win of the year. Paul Casey finished alone in second at 13-under.

(Flushing Meadows, NY) — Serena Williams is into the U.S. Open quarterfinals. The women’s top seed defeated Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-3 in her fourth-round match. It was her 308th career Grand Slam match victory, moving her past Roger Federer for the Open era record.

Martin Truex Jr. claimed his second victory of the Sprint Cupseason after fending off Kevin Harvick on the final restart to win the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Harvick led 214 of the 367 laps but was passed by Truex with 28 to go. Kyle Larson finished third with Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano rounding out the top five.
