Special Olympics Illinois Outdoor Sports Festival Coming to Decatur Area

Volunteers are still needed for the upcoming Special Olympics Illinois Outdoors Sports Festival in Decatur/Forsyth onSept. 10-11. Interested persons, age 10 and up, can register to volunteer for a variety of times slots at either location athttps://www.soill.org/event/outdoor-sports-festival/.

Hickory Point Golf Course, Forsyth (golf)

ATHLETES:          Nearly 700 athletes (View list of athletes expected to compete)

29  slow-pitch softball teams who advanced from district play

6 tee-ball teams

63 athletes competing in softball individual skills competition

17  athletes competing in 3-hole golf

24  athletes competing in 6-hole golf

25 athletes competing in 9-hole golf

42 athletes competing in Unified Golf 9-hole aggregate team play*

74 athletes competing in golf individual skills competition

3 Young Athletes participating  in softball skills exhibition
*Special Olympics Unified Sports combine equal numbers of athletes with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team

SCHEDULE:        

               Opening Ceremony:

6:15 – 7 p.m. Saturday at Central Park, downtown Decatur

        Competition:

Softball:       10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday: slow-pitch and tee-ball
10 a.m. – noon Saturday: individual skills competition
noon – 1 p.m. Saturday: Young Athletes individual skills
8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Sunday: slow-pitch and tee-ball

Golf:          9 a.m. Saturday shotgun start: 9-hole and Unified Golf 9-hole
noon Saturday shotgun start: 6-hole golf
noon – 1 p.m. Saturday shotgun start: 3-hole golf
10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday: individual skills competition
9 a.m. Sunday shotgun start: 9-hole and Unified Golf 9-hole
