The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has awarded more than $9 million to several Illinois organizations to help prevent veterans from becoming homeless. The announcement was made Friday morning by U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL). Durbin says the $9,540,655 will be used to fund case management and outreach programs for Illinois’ veterans.

– Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, Inc.: $452,238
– The Salvation Army, an Illinois Corporation: $1,629,776
– Volunteers of America of Illinois: $1,155,731
– Transitional Living Services, Inc.: $344,616
