(Chapel Hill, NC) — Former Illinois head coach Tim Beckman is leaving his volunteer assistant position with North Carolina. Beckman was fired from Illinois last year for allegedly mistreating injured players and controversy erupted earlier this week once it became news that Beckman was on the UNC staff. Beckman released a statement through the school stating he doesn’t want to be a distraction.

(St. Louis, MO) — The Cardinals fell behind 7-0 and couldn’t recover in a 10-6 loss to the Mets at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright gave up seven runs, only two earned in five innings. Wainwright is 9-and-8. Brandon Moss hit two homers as St. Louis lost two-of-three to New York.

(Chicago, IL) — Todd Frazier hit a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the White Sox a 7-6 win over the Mariners at home. Frazier tied the game during Chicago’s three-run seventh with a two-run single. Reliever David Robertson picked up the victory in the opener of the four-game series.

(Foxboro, MA) — The Patriots are hoping to breath life into Barkevious Mingo’s career. New England acquired the outside linebacker from the Browns for a 2017 fifth-round pick. Mingo was the sixth-overall choice by Cleveland in the 2013 draft. He has only seven sacks in three seasons.

(Los Angeles, CA) — Matt Moore fell one out short of a no-hitter, but the Giants still came away with a 4-0 victory over the Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. Moore improved to 1-and-3 in eight-and-two-third shutout innings with seven strikeouts and three walks. Corey Seager broke up the no-hit bid with a bloop single.

(Los Angeles, CA) — The Dodgers and Phillies are exchanging catchers. Los Angeles acquired Carlos Ruiz from Philadelphia for A.J. Ellis. LA also received one-million-dollars.

(Madison, IL) — IndyCar is coming to Gateway Motorsports Park. Gateway will be the host site of the 17th race in the IndyCar series starting next year. The two sides have agreed to a multi-year deal. Gateway Motorsports Park was given the thumbs up as a certified test course for IndyCar last year.

(Brooklyn, MI) — The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series continues on Sunday as the Pure Michigan 400 gets rolling at the Michigan International Speedway. Kevin Harvick has a 27-point lead over the Brad Keselowski at the top of the driver standings. In 10th place sits Matt Kenseth, who is hoping to repeat at the Pure Michigan 400. The race starts at 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

(Indianapolis, IN) — The Colts play host to the Philadelphia Eagles tomorrow night as the preseason rolls on. This is the final home preseason game for the Colts, who will visit the Bengals next Thursday. The regular season opens on September 11th at home against the Lions.
