>>Thunder Signs Westbrook To Extension


(Oklahoma City, OK)  —  Russell Westbrook will not be following Kevin Durant out of Oklahoma City next offseason.  The Thunder have signed Westbrook to a three-year contract extension.  The Vertical reports the deal is worth 85-million dollars


>>Reds Rough Up Leake, Cardinals


(Cincinnati, OH)  —  Cincinnati roughed up former Red Mike Leake for seven runs in five-plus innings as the Reds beat the Cardinals 7-0 at Great American Ball Park.  The Reds took two-of-three in the series.  Leake slipped to 8-and-9 with the loss for St. Louis.  Tommy Pham, Brandon Moss, Jhonny Peralta and Alberto Rosario each had singles to account for the Cardinals four hits.


>>Cubs At A’s Tonight


(Oakland, CA)  —  The Cubs will try to extend a four-game winning streak when they open a three-game series tonight against the Athletics in Oakland.  Jon Lester puts his 11-and-4 mark on the line for the Cubs, while 1-and-2 Dillon Overton get the ball for the A’s.  First pitch is set for 9:05 p.m.


>>White Sox Snap Tigers’ Eight-Game Winning Streak


(Detroit, MI)  —  The White Sox avoided a three-game sweep with a 6-3 win over the Tigers.    Avisail [[ ah-vah-sy-EEL ]] Garcia and Jose Abreu [[ ah-BRAY-oo ]] both homered in a five-run second inning.  Jose Quintana pitched three-run ball into the eighth for his ninth win and David Robertson posted his 26th save.


>>Mets Knock Off Yankees


(Bronx, NY)  —  The Mets earned a split in the four-game Subway Series with a 4-1 win over the Yankees.  Jay Bruce belted a three-run homer for his first hit as a Met.  The Mets are a game out of the second NL Wild Card spot.


>>Rio Games Formally Begin Tonight


(Rio de Janeiro, Brazil)  —  The Games of the 31st Olympiad formally begin with the Opening Ceremony tonight.  The Olympics will continue through August 21st.  Rio is the first South American city to host the Summer Olympics.


>>Alabama, Clemson 1-2 In Preseason Coaches Poll


(Undated)  —  Defending national champion Alabama is number-one in the preseason Top-25 Coaches Poll.  The Crimson Tide received 55 first-place votes to beat out Clemson, which it defeated 45-40 in last season’s College Football Playoff title game.  Oklahoma, Florida State and Ohio State round out the top-five.


>>NFL Preseason Begins Sunday


(Canton, OH)  —  NFL football is back this weekend.  The preseason kicks off with the Colts and Packers meeting in the annual Hall of Fame Game on Sunday.  Brett Favre [[ farv ]] and seven others will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame tomorrow night.


>>Sprint Cup Series Heads To Watkins Glen


(Watkins Glen, NY)  —  The Sprint Cup Series heads to Watkins Glen International for the Cheez-It 355 at The Glen.  Qualifying takes place tomorrow afternoon, with the 90-lap, 220-and-a-half-mile race to follow at 2:30 Sunday afternoon.  Joey Logano took the checkered flag at last year’s race.
