>>Mickelson Ties Major Record With 63 At The Open


(Troon, Scotland)  —  Phil Mickelson tied a major record with an eight-under 63 at Royal Troon in the first round of The Open in Scotland.  Mickelson had an 18-foot putt lip-out for birdie on the 18th hole.  No player has ever shot 62 in a major championship.


>>Broncos Offer Miller Record Deal


(Englewood, CO)  —  The Broncos are offering linebacker Von Miller a record contract.  ESPN reports Denver has offered Miller a six-year, 114.5-million-dollar deal that includes 70-million guaranteed.  Based on guaranteed money, the pact would make Miller the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history.


>>Cards Host Marlins


(St. Louis, MO)  —  The Cardinals return from the All-Star break opening a three-game series against the Marlins at Busch Stadium tonight.  It’s the beginning of a 10-game homestand for the 46-and-42 Cards.  Jaime Garcia gets the start for St. Louis opposite Miami’s Wei-Yin Chen.


>>Cubs Open Second Half Vs. Rangers


(Chicago, IL)  —  The Cubs begin the second half of the season against the Rangers this afternoon.  It’s the opener of a three-game set at Wrigley Field.  Chicago enters the second half with a seven-game lead on the Cardinals for first place in the NL Central.


>>White Sox Visit Angels


(Anaheim, CA)  —  The White Sox start their second half of the season tonight against the Angels in Anaheim.  The affair is the first of a three-game series.  The Sox are seven games out of first place in the AL Central.  Chicago is also four-and-a-half games out of an AL Wild Card spot.


>>Red Sox Acquire Pomeranz From Padres


(Boston, MA)  —  The Red Sox are bolstering their rotation for the stretch run.  Boston has acquired All-Star pitcher Drew Pomeranz from the Padres in exchange for minor league righty Anderson Espinoza.  Pomeranz was 8-and-7 with a 2.47 ERA in 17 starts with San Diego this season.


>>Second Half Of MLB Season Begins Today


(Undated)  —  The second half of the Major League Baseball season gets underway today.  All 30 teams will return from the All-Star break and be in action.  The Nationals, Cubs, Giants, Orioles, Indians and Rangers all come out of the break in first place in their respective divisions.


>>Bears, Jeffery Deadline Today


(Lake Forest, IL)  —  The Bears and wide receiver Alshon Jeffery have until 3:00 p.m. today to work out a long-term deal.  If no contract is reached, Jeffery will play under the franchise tag, which translates to a one-year deal worth 14.59-million dollars.


>>Earnhardt Out Of Sunday’s Race


(Loudon, NH)  —  Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not race in Sunday’s New Hampshire 301 due to concussion-like symptoms.  Earnhardt did not clear a physicians evaluation this week.  Alex Bowman will be behind the wheel in his place.
