(Washington, DC) — Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer is in the record books once again. Scherzer struck out 20 in Washington’s 3-2 win over the Tigers. He is only the fourth pitcher in MLB history to strike out 20 batters in nine innings.

Stephen Piscotty had two hits and an RBI, while Jaime Garcia improved to 3-and-2 dealing seven innings with no earned runs and eight strikeouts. Trevor Rosenthal locked up his sixth save despite walking two in the ninth.
