>>Nats’ Scherzer Strikes Out 20

 

(Washington, DC)  —  Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer is in the record books once again.  Scherzer struck out 20 in Washington’s 3-2 win over the Tigers.  He is only the fourth pitcher in MLB history to strike out 20 batters in nine innings.

 

>>Cards Sink Angels

 

(Anaheim, CA)  —  The Cardinals put up four runs in the second inning and went on to a 5-2 win over the Angels in the second of three in Anaheim.  Stephen Piscotty had two hits and an RBI, while Jaime Garcia improved to 3-and-2 dealing seven innings with no earned runs and eight strikeouts.  Trevor Rosenthal locked up his sixth save despite walking two in the ninth.

 

>>Cards Clash With Halos One More Time Tonight

 

(Anaheim, CA)  —  The Cardinals and Angels wrap up their three-game Interleague series tonight at Angel Stadium.  Adam Wainwright takes the hill for St. Louis.  He’s 2-and-3 with a 6.30 ERA this season.  Los Angeles counters with Jered Weaver, who is 3-and-1 with a 4.72 ERA.  First pitch is at 9:05 p.m.

 

>>Padres Complete Doubleheader Sweep Of Cubs

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Padres finished off a doubleheader sweep of the Cubs with a 1-0 win in the nightcap at Wrigley Field.  San Diego won the opener, 7-4.  The Cubs have lost two straight for the first time this season.

 

>>Cubs Host Pirates Tomorrow

 

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Cubs are off today.  They’ll open a three-game series with the Pirates at Wrigley Field tomorrow afternoon.  Chicago enters the set with a seven-game lead on the Bucs in the NL Central.  Jason Hammel will be on the bump in the opener for Chicago.  The Bucs counter with Francisco Liriano.

 

>>Rangers Top White Sox In Rubber Match

 

(Arlington, TX)  —  The Rangers edged the White Sox, 6-5, in the rubber match of a three-game set in Texas.  Todd Frazier homered for Chicago before leaving in the fourth with a cut lip after diving into the stands for a foul ball.  Frazier needed five stitches for the cut.  Dan Jennings took the loss.

 

>>White Sox Face Yankees Tomorrow

 

(Bronx, NY)  —  The White Sox also have today off.  Chicago will open a three-game set with the Yankees in New York tomorrow night.  Chicago has a five-game lead for first in the AL Central.  Chris Sale will put his 7-and-0 mark on the line for the Sox.  The Yanks will send out 0-and-5 Luis Severino.

 

>>Syndergaard Leads Mets Past Dodgers

 

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  Noah Syndergaard did it all as the Mets edged the Dodgers, 4-3.  Syndergaard became just the second pitcher in franchise history to hit two home runs in a game.  He plated all four New York runs and fired eight innings of two-run ball for his third win.

 

>>Warriors Close Out Trail Blazers

 

(Oakland, CA)  —  The defending NBA champions are into the Western Conference finals.  Steph Curry scored 29 points as the Warriors closed out the Trail Blazers with a 125-121 win in Game Five of their semifinal set.  Golden State will meet either the Thunder or Spurs in the conference finals.

 

>>Raptors Top Heat To Take Series Lead

 

(Toronto, Ontario)  —  The Raptors are back in control of their East semifinal series with the Heat after posting a 99-91 win in Game Five.  DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry combined for 59 points to help Toronto take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven set.  Miami will try to avoid elimination at home tomorrow night.

 

>>Blues Blow Out Stars In Game Seven

 

(Dallas, TX)  —  The top team in the West has been eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs.  The Blues smoked the Stars, 6-1, in the Game Seven of their semifinal set.  The Blues are in the conference finals for the first time since 2001.  They’ll face either the Predators or Sharks, who meet in a Game Seven tonight.
