(Las Vegas, NV)  —  We may have seen the last of UFC star Conor McGregor in the octagon.  McGregor took to Twitter yesterday to say “I have decided to retire young.  Thanks for the cheese.  Catch ya’s later.”  McGregor has been pulled from the main event of UFC 200.

 

>>Hawks, Spurs Coast To Home Wins

(Undated)  —  The Hawks and Spurs had no trouble taking 2-0 leads in their respective first-round NBA playoff series.  The Hawks held the Celtics to seven points in the first quarter en route to an 89-72 win.  San Antonio smoked the Grizzlies, 94-68.

 

>>Report: MRI For Curry’s Ankle Negative

(Oakland, CA)  —  An MRI exam for Warriors star Steph Curry has come back clean.  ESPN reports the exam revealed “nothing of concern,” but Curry remains questionable for tomorrow’s Game Three against Houston.  Curry sat out Game Two with the ankle injury he suffered in the series opener.

 

>>Milt Pappas Dies At 76

(Chicago, IL)  —  Former Cubs pitcher Milt Pappas is dead.  He passed away Tuesday from natural causes at the age of 76.  The two-time All-Star is best remembered for coming within a disputed pitch of throwing a perfect game for the Cubs in 1972.

 

>>Hammel Leads Cubs Over Cardinals

(St. Louis, MO)  —  Jason Hammel did it all as the Cubs clipped the Cardinals, 2-1.  Hammel struck out six over six innings of one-run ball and also plated both Chicago runs on a single in the fourth.  The 11-and-3 Cubs are off to their best start since 1970.

 

>>Cards Close Out Series With Cubs Today

(St. Louis, MO)  —  The Cardinals and Cubs close out their three-game series with a day game today.  Carlos Martinez puts his 2-and-0 mark on the line against Chicago’s Kyle Hendricks, who is 1-and-1.  First pitch is at 12:45 p.m.  The Cards will open a seven-game road trip at San Diego on Friday.

 

>>White Sox Blank Angels

(Chicago, IL)  —  Mat Latos pitched into the seventh as the White Sox blanked the Angels, 5-0.  Latos scattered two hits and three walks while striking out five to improve to 3-and-0.  Nate Jones earned his first save.  Jose Abreu and Todd Frazier launched solo homers to help Chicago stop a three-game slide.

 

>>White Sox Continue Series With Angels

(Chicago, IL)  —  The White Sox and Angels meet in the third installment of their four-game series this afternoon.  Ace Chris Sale is scheduled to be on the mound for Chicago.  The Halos will counter with Garrett Richards.

 

>>White Sox Recall Johnson

(Chicago, IL)  —  The White Sox recalled pitcher Erik Johnson from the Knights prior to last night’s game against the Tides.  Johnson, who was scheduled to start last night’s game for Charlotte, was 0-and-1 with a 4.22 ERA in two starts.  In a corresponding move, Chicago sent outfielder J.B. Shuck to Charlotte.

 

>>Blues Push Defending Champs To Brink

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Blues have pushed the defending Stanley Cup champs to the brink of elimination.  St. Louis scored 3:10 apart in the third and held on for a 4-3 win over the Blackhawks.  Chicago will try to avoid a first-round exit on the road tomorrow night.
