Illinois has fired head football coach Bill Cubit.  New Athletic Director Josh Whitman announced Cubit’s dismissal at a press conference Saturday morning.   Cubit had the interim tag removed in late November after taking over the head coaching duties from Tim Beckman, who was fired before the 2015 season.   Multiple sources say that former Chicago Bears Head Coach Lovie Smith is in line to become the head man at Illinois.

The Chicago Bulls beat the Houston Rockets 108-100.   Pau Gasol led the Bulls with 28 points and also grabbed 17 rebounds.   Jimmy Butler made his return from injury and scored 24 points and snagged 11 rebounds for Chicago.

Peyton Manning has decided to retire from the NFL.   The long-time Indianapolis Colt and more recent Denver Bronco Quarterback will announce his retirement Monday at a press conference.   Manning won two Super Bowls, one in Indy and last season with Denver.
