Denny Hamlin won the 58th running of the Daytona 500 in the closest finish in race history. Hamlin edged out Martin Truex Jr. by 0.01 seconds for his first career Daytona 500 victory. Kyle Busch came in third, followed by Kevin Harvick and Carl Edwards.
Wisconsin used a 17-0 run to overcome a 13-point second-half deficit in a 69-60 win over Illinois Sunday in Madison. Malcolm Hill had 20 points and Kendrick Nunn added 15 for the Illini, who fell to 12-and-15. Illinois hosts 21st-ranked Indiana on Thursday.
The Wild routed the Blackhawks, 6-1, as part of the NHL’s Stadium Series at TCF Bank Stadium. Patrick Kane scored his 35th goal of the year for Chicago, which has dropped four of six. Corey Crawford allowed four goals on 23 shots before being lifted after the second period. The ‘Hawks are off until Thursday.
Derrick Rose and E’Twaun Moore scored 24 points apiece to lead the Bulls to a 126-115 win over the Lakers. Chicago has won two straight on the heels of a five-game skid. The retiring Kobe Bryant netted 22 points in his final visit to Chicago. The Bulls host the Wizards Wednesday.
Anthony Davis scored a franchise-record 59 points to lead the Pelicans to a 111-106 win over the Pistons. Davis, who also grabbed 20 rebounds, scored the most points by any player in the NBA this season.
Kevin Love collected 29 points and 11 rebounds as the Cavaliers trounced the Thunder, 115-92. LeBron James added 25 points, seven boards and 11 assists in Cleveland’s fifth straight win.
Manager Mike Matheny is taking any mystery out of his Opening Day starter. He has named Adam Wainwright his starter for the first regular season game on Sunday, April 3rd at Pittsburgh. It’ll be the fourth consecutive Opening Day start for the 34-year-old and fifth overall.
Bubba Watson staged a late rally to win the Northern Trust Open. Watson birdied two of his final three holes to finish 15-under for the championship. Watson won the tournament for the second time in three years. Adam Scott and Jason Kokrak finished in a tie for second at 14-under.
Former Cowboys running back Joseph Randle is in trouble with the law again. Randle was arrested in Kansas on suspicion of aggravated battery, drug possession and criminal damage to property. Randle has been arrested five times in the last 17 months.
