Super Bowl 50 could be Peyton Manning’s final game. NFL Network cameras picked up the post-game exchange between the Bronco quarterback and Patriots head coach Bill Belichick on Sunday in which Manning said “This might be my last rodeo. So, it sure has been a pleasure.”
The NFL says it is reviewing allegations that Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning had human growth hormone delivered to his house when he was a member of the Colts. There is no timetable for the completion of the investigation, but it’s not expected before the Super Bowl. Al Jazeera reported last month that an intern at an Indianapolis anti-aging clinic was secretly recorded suggesting Manning’s wife received deliveries of HGH, which is banned by the NFL. Peyton was recovering from shoulder injuries at the time but has denied the allegations, calling the report “complete garbage.”
The NFL holds the 2016 Pro Bowl Draft tonight. Rosters for the league’s annual All-Star Game will be divvied up in a two-hour special. Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin will serve as non-playing captains that draft players regardless of conference. Team Rice will take on Team Irvin Sunday in Hawaii.
Riley Nash scored twice and Eddie Lack made 26 saves as the Hurricanes steamrolled the Blackhawks, 5-0. Corey Crawford allowed three goals on 16 shots before being lifted for Scott Darling, who made 22 saves the rest of the way. Chicago has dropped three of its last four after winning 12 in-a-row. The ‘Hawks are off for the All-Star break until Tuesday.
Joakim Noah says he hopes to be back with the Bulls next season. Noah, who had season-ending shoulder surgery last week, is an unrestricted free agent this summer. He says he expects to make a full recovery. The Bulls visit the Lakers tomorrow.
Clippers forward Blake Griffin is apologizing after breaking his hand in a fight with an equipment staffer. Griffin had surgery and will miss at least four-to-six weeks. The team says the conduct has no place in the organization and the incident is being investigated.
Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 74 points as the Thunder topped the Knicks in overtime, 128-122. Durant had 44 points and 12 rebounds, while Westbrook ended with 30 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists.
Slugger Yoenis Cespedes [[ yo-EN-iss SESS-peh-dess ]] is officially returning to the Mets. The team and the outfielder finalized a three-year deal that includes an opt-out clause after this season. Cespedes helped lead the Mets to their first NL title since 2000.
Illinois hosts Ohio State tomorrow. The Fighting Illini ended a two-game slide with an overtime win against Minnesota on Saturday. Illinois had lost five-of-six before that and is 10-and-10 overall and 2-and-5 in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes are 13-and-8 after beating Penn State Monday.
