The participants for Super Bowl 50 are set. Peyton Manning will make his fourth trip to the big game after the Broncos held on for a 20-18 win over the Patriots in the AFC Championship Game. The Panthers will appear in the Super Bowl for only the second time in franchise history after crushing the Cardinals, 49-15, in the NFC title game. Super Bowl 50 takes place Sunday, February 7th at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
The NFL and Visit Indy have entered a five-year agreement to keep the NFL Scouting Combine at Lucas Oil Stadium through at least 2020. The City of Indianapolis has hosted the Combine since 1987, but there were rumblings it could move to Los Angeles when the Rams open their new stadium in 2019.
The Blues failed to get a shot past Corey Crawford in a 2-0 loss to the Blackhawks in Chicago. Artemi Panarin and Andrew Shaw scored and Crawford made 25 saves for the Blackhawks. Brian Elliott allowed two goals on 25 shots for St. Louis, which is now off until after the All-Star break next Tuesday.
The top two teams in the NBA square off tonight when the 40-and-4 Warriors host the 38-and-6 Spurs. San Antonio, which has won 13 in-a-row, will be without Tim Duncan due to knee soreness. Golden State has won 38 straight at home.
Malcolm Hill had 28 points and 10 rebounds as Illinois got by the Golden Gophers 76-71 in overtime Saturday at Minnesota. Michael Fink snagged 16 rebounds for the Fighting Illini, who had lost five-of-six. Illinois is 10-and-10 overall and 2-and-5 in the Big Ten. The Illini host Ohio State on Thursday Millikin Men were soundly beaten on the road at #3 Nationally ranked Augustana 96-50, and the Millikin Women also fall on the road to Augustana 65-59. Both teams still in search of their first CCIW Conference win.
