Longtime Wisconsin head basketball coach Bo Ryan is retiring, effective immediately. Ryan is walking away just eight months after leading the Badgers to the national title game. Ryan won a school-record 364 games in 15-plus seasons in Madison.
The Cavaliers outscored the Celtics 49-31 in the second half to pull away for an 89-77 win in Boston. LeBron James netted 24 points in Cleveland’s third straight win. Kevin Love added 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.
Patrick Kane’s franchise-record 26-game points streak came to an end in the Blackhawks’ 3-0 loss to the Avalanche. Kane had 16 goals and 24 assists during the longest streak since a 30-game run during the 1992-93 season.

Bears first-round pick Kevin White will not make his NFL debut this season. The wide receiver will remain on the team’s physically unable to perform list. White continues to recover from surgery to fix a stress fracture on his lower shin. The Bears selected him seventh-overall out of West Virginia in the 2015 NFL Draft.
Illinois returns to the court on Saturday as the Fighting Illini host South Dakota. Illinois beat UIC 83-79 this past Saturday at the United Center in Chicago. The Illini have won three in-a-row to improve to 6-and-5. The Coyotes are 6-and-4 and play at Milwaukee tomorrow.
Bulls legend and NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan is picking 23 Chicago-area charities to receive monetary gifts from his settlement with grocery store chains over the use of his name. A jury awarded Jordan 8.9-million dollars in August from the now-defunct chain Dominick’s.
