Last night, in a game heard only on Talk 101FM, the Millikin Women’s Basketball team beat MacMurray by a 68-43 final. Millikin was led by Alyssa Saklak who had 21 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Millikin improves to 2 and 0 on the season and is on the road until December 12th when they return home to face Washington University.
There’s no change at the top of this week’s College Football Playoff rankings. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame are still ranked one-through-four in this week’s poll. Iowa and Oklahoma State are the first two teams out of the playoffs.
Brandon Saad scored a pair of goals to lead the Blue Jackets to a 3-1 win over the Blues. Kevin Shattenkirk scored 7:36 into the game for St. Louis, which has lost three of four. Brian Elliott stopped 35 shots in defeat. The Blues are back home to host Buffalo tomorrow night.
The NFL is suspending Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith one year for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. Smith was arrested in August and charged with DUI, hit and run and vandalism. He was cut by the 49ers after four seasons following the incident.
The Rangers’ Jeff Banister and Cubs’ Joe Maddon are Major League Baseball’s Managers of the Year. Banister led Texas to the AL West title this past season. Maddon guided Chicago to a National League Wild Card berth this year.
The Warriors are off to the best start by a defending NBA champion since 1996. Steph Curry scored 37 points as the Warriors held off the Raptors, 115-110. The 12-and-0 Warriors are three wins away from tying the best start to a season in league history.
Ronda Rousey will be out of action for at least two months. The UFC has medically suspended its top star for at least 60 days following Saturday’s stunning loss to Holly Holm. Rousey is also banned from contact training for 45 days.
Kentucky and Michigan State captured big wins last night at the State Farm Champions Classic at the United Center. Second-ranked Kentucky dropped fourth-ranked Duke, 74-63, while number-13 Michigan State rallied for a 79-73 win over fifth-ranked Kansas.
The Fighting Illini Men’s Basketball team is on the road tonight at Providence. Illinois has split its first two games against North Florida and North Dakota State.
