The Bengals have been knocked from the ranks of the undefeated. T.J. Yates’ 22-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter gave the Texans a stunning 10-6 win over the Bengals on “Monday Night Football”. The Panthers and Patriots are the only remaining undefeated teams in the NFL.
David Backes [[ BACK-es ]] tallied two goals and an assist as the Blues edged the Jets 3-2 at Scottrade Center. Vladimir Tarasenko [[ tare-uh-SANK-oh ]] also lit the lamp for the Blues, who avoided their first three-game losing streak of the season. Jake Allen made 16 saves in the victory. The Blues skate in Columbus tonight.
Jimmy Butler blocked Paul George’s floating jumper on the final play to preserve Chicago’s 96-95 win over Indiana. Butler scored 17 points while Derrick Rose netted 23 on 9-of-18 shooting for the Bulls, who have won their last three games. Rose exited in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. The Bulls open a four-game road trip against the Suns tomorrow night.
The Rams are making a change at quarterback. Head coach Jeff Fisher has decided to go with backup Case Keenum this Sunday against Baltimore, benching starter Nick Foles. Fisher says Foles is still the captain, but he likes Keenum’s mobility and they need more production.
Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning is out for Sunday’s game against the Bears. Manning reportedly has a partially torn plantar fascia [[ FASS-ee-uh ]] in his right foot. Backup Brock Osweiler [[ OSS-why-ler ]] will be under center in Manning’s place.
Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant and Astros shortstop Carlos Correa [[ core-AYE-uh ]] are Major League Baseball’s Rookies of the Year. Bryant was a unanimous selection for the National League award after hitting .275 with 26 homers and 99 RBI.
A top-10 team has been upset just days into the college basketball season. A 10-0 run in the second half helped push George Washington to a 73-68 win over sixth-ranked Virginia. The Cavaliers lost only four games all last season.
The new College Football Playoff rankings will be unveiled this evening. Clemson, Alabama, Ohio State and Notre Dame currently hold the top four spots, though the one-loss Irish could be overtaken by 10-and-0 Oklahoma State
