The Mets have advanced to the World Series for the first time since 2000. The Mets completed a four-game sweep of the Cubs in the National League Championship Series with an 8-3 win at Wrigley Field. New York never trailed at any point in the series.
Daniel Murphy’s record-breaking performance in the NLCS earned him MVP honors for the series. Murphy homered in every game of the Mets’ sweep of the Cubs. Dating back to Game Four of the NLDS, Murphy has gone deep in an MLB-record six consecutive playoff games.
The Cubs’ magical 2015 run ends with a combined 101 wins. Chicago cut down the Cardinals in four games in the NLDS to advance in the playoffs for the for the first time since 2003, but hasn’t won an NLCS game since. The Cubs enter 2016 still in search of their first World Series title since 1908.
The American League Championship Series is going back to Kansas City. The Blue Jays beat the Royals 7-1 in Game Five in Toronto to extend the series. The Royals will host Game Six tomorrow with a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven set.
The Cavaliers and big man Tristan Thompson are agreeing on a contract extension after all. Multiple reports say the two sides have agreed to a five-year, 82-million-dollar deal. Thompson averaged eight and-a-half points, and eight rebounds for the Eastern Conference champs last season.
The NCAA is putting distance between itself and daily fantasy sports websites. The association says it will block out DFS advertising during the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments in the spring. The NCAA is against DFS contests that are based on college sports because it considers them a form of gambling.
Week Seven of the NFL season kicks off with the Seahawks and 49ers renewing their rivalry tonight. Both teams enter the NFC West showdown just 2-and-4 on the season. Seattle has won two straight and three of the last four meetings between the teams.
